The Ontario Liberals announced recently the introduction of Harmonized Sale Tax or HST. Combining the 5% GST and the 8% PST into one 13% HST. HST has been billed as a strategy to save Ontario companies money by reducing paperwork and to simplify the collection of sales tax.
Costing you more
Currently Naturopathic Care and natural remedies are only subject to the 5% GST. With the introduction of HST, the cost of the these goods and services are effectively increasing 8%.
What to do about it?
- Write your MPP
- ask for an 8% discount if you are an existing client
- budget accordingly
